Feasibility Study and Definitive Design for the Northern Line High Speed Rail Project Phase 1 and Phase 2
- Hits: 5401
The project involves the study and detailed design of the high speed train: Bangkok-Chiang Mai Phase 2: Phitsanulok-Chiang Mai. Most of the rail routes are newly constructed. The beginning of the project connects the existing HRS route Phase 1: Bangkok-Phitsanulok at KM 384+200, Phitsanulok district, Phitsanulok province, to the terminal point at KM 672+420, Chiang Mai train station, Mueang Chiang Mai district, distance of the project route is 288 km, passing 6 provinces. The route comprises an at-grade railway with Chiang Mai province for 25 km, elevated railway of 237 km and tunnel railway of 26 km. There are five HSR stations; Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai, Lampang, Lamphun and Chiang Mai HRS stations, one maintenance center at Saraphi district, Chiang Mai province and four maintenance units in Mueang Phitsanulok district, Phitsanulok province, Si Satchanalai district, Sukhothai province, Long district, Phrae province and Mueang Lampang district, Lampang province. The Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train type is selected. It is an eight-bogie HSR, which can support 542 passengers/train (narrow body) and 630 passengers/train (wide, body). The maximum speed is 300 km/hr. The average travel speed is 236 km/hr. According to the environmental survey of the project area, it is found that some sections of the rail route were constructed through watershed class 1, the National Reserved Forest for Conservation (Zone C), Wiang Kosai National Park, preserved area for Doi Khun Tan National Park and Doi Pha Mueang Wildlife Sanctuary. The construction also passed Nan, Yom and Wang Rivers, which are key rivers and national wetlands.
